It has to be said that not all of the merchandise is exactly what it purports to be on the label and many tourists have bought “silver” jewelry only to discover later that it is a cheaper, inferior alloy.

There are numerous boutique and specialist stores in and around Cabo San Lucas and San Jose Del Cabo, from unique designer fashion through jewelry to handicrafts and ornamental goods.

The problem is that in Cabo they tend to be mixed in with the smaller, tourist kitsch type stores. That’s fine as far as it goes of course, but it makes it a little more difficult to point at one area in the town and say “Go there!”

San Jose is different because it has the Art area which is becoming famous for the Art Walk – an eclectic evening where you can move from store to store perusing items and having a little wine or a nibble on something from the local restaurants. Over time, more and more artisans and niche shops are gravitating towards this charming area of town and many resorts are offering trips to it as part of the package.

One of the favorites for tourists is the jewelry and Cabo is blessed (or cursed) with hundreds of stores. It has to be said that not all of the merchandise is exactly what it purports to be on the label and many tourists have bought “silver” jewelry only to discover later that it is a cheaper, inferior alloy. That's not to say that every vendor is on the make, but it does suggest that you should shop wisely!

Rarely will you pay the price on the sticker…if indeed there is a sticker! So be prepared to haggle.
