This is the 8th year of the Black and Green tournament, which originated with a group of friends over bragging rights for who was to be called the best fisherman.

Now around 130 people travel to Cabo from all over the U.S. and Canada to take part in the event and support the anglers.

The 2014 Schedule is:

26 Oct - Captain's meeting at Cabo Blue
27-28 Oct - Fishing
29 Oct - Dinner with awards and auction at Rockstone

The tournament is unique in several aspects: first, the entry fee is sensibly priced ($100 per boat). Second, they advocate catch and release of all billfish; in fact, a "kill" cannot count towards total score. Points are awarded for billfish, tuna, and dorado.

Scores are tallied at the RedRum charter office (one of the tournament sponsors) and the entire thing operates on an honor system so it has a relaxed and friendly feel. Trophies, and bragging rights, are awarded for the top three teams.

The auction is one of the highlights of the tournament. There are numerous donations of dinners, condo stays, fishing trips, etc. from Cabo businesses.

The proceeds all go to good causes in the area and the event raises between $10-$20k. Some of the money goes to Project Smiles, which organizes food drives throughout the year, feeding the needy in Cabo. The local Humane Society is also a beneficiary as well as local Cabo children who benefit from sports equipment.
