Captain Tony's - one of Cabo's most iconic restaurants - and the secret to their success...
If you have ever been to Cabo, chances are you will have heard of Captain’s Tony’s. And if you haven’t - well you know that big marlin statue on the marina? It’s right there.
In a prime spot on the marina, with a traditional palapa roof, Captain Tony’s is something of an institution. It began way back in 2007 with only 6 tables, and 14 staff.
Now, it’s occupies a whole corner spot on the Marina. Has lots of tables, and over 50 staff. But it still retains its original appeal. And it still has a palapa …
We caught up recently with the team at Captain Tony’s – to try and work out the secret of their success. What makes it such a special place? Is it the fab food, the relaxed atmosphere, the friendly staff, or the great service?
Undeniably it’s great quality food.
And all at very reasonable prices. The wood-fired pizzas are arguably the best in town. Early morning 6am breakfasts ensure a steady flow of anglers before they hit the water. Boxed lunches mean they are well-fed on the water. And the finely-tuned hook and cook service, ensures they all return with their catch of the day.
There are big meaty burgers when that is just what you need. Mouth watering Mexican dishes. And superb seafood. From curricanes and sashimi, to whole red snapper, beer battered fish tacos, and blackened catch of the day. To die for. Really.
But it’s not just the food that keeps bringing people back.
Or the drinks - a great selection of beers, an impressive wine list, and of course a mean margarita. It’s the atmosphere. And, most importantly, the staff. Alex Alvarez, General Manager, explains:
“We want people to remember Captain Tony’s, and to come back, again and again. We try to provide the best service we can, and take good care of our customers.”
“Lots of our staff have worked here for years – some since the very beginning. They know their customers, they remember them. Customers love coming back and seeing a familiar face. It’s part of the appeal."

Live music, sports channels, and regular promotions are an equally big part of the attraction. But perhaps the universal appeal of Captain Tony’s is that there really is something for everyone.
