The 2013 edition of The Los Cabos Tuna Jackpot, the world’s richest tuna fishing tournament, boasted $542,000 in prize money available to anglers on 135 teams. Shortly after scales opened at 2 PM on Thursday, the first day of the two day fishing tournament, a crowd began to build on the marina. They waited anxiously, hoping for a chance to witness the weigh-in of a prize-winning tuna. There were rumors of 200 pounders and even a 300 pounder. Just after 4 PM, when all lines had to be out of the water, the fish finally started rolling in. The rumors of gigantic tunas proved untrue, and all involved in the tournament admitted that the fishing this year was a lot tougher than last year, when there seemed to be an endless stream of 200 pounders and the winner tipped the scales at 372. There were also several empty-handed crews with stories of fish that got away. That’s not to say there weren’t any prize winning fish, because by the time the scales closed at 6 PM every category was filled and each and every daily jackpot had been claimed...
