Second Mar De Fondo Warning

Date Published:

Luis Felipe Puente , national coordinator of Civil Protection of the Interior Ministry announced another occurrence of the Mar de Fondo phenomenon starting at the weekend past and going on for a few days into this week.

The weather related effect causes large waves and currents to form and he urged tourists and locals to observer caution during this period.

The swell is due to the movement of waves which have spread outside the area where they were generated and has no connection with local wind patterns, although its cause could be high winds that originated in a different area .

The maritime community are advised to be aware of possible restrictions and to remain vigilant.

Surfers, however, anticipate a fantastic weekend ahead!
