Mexico’s famous underwater photographer – Luis Javier Sandoval- pockets another award at this year’s Wildlife Photographer of the Year.
Sandoval’s captivating image shows a sea lion cub at play
with a starfish. Sea lion cubs are curious by nature and were actually throwing
the starfish at Sandovar, trying to engage him in play, when he slipped into
the water to take photos.
His sea lion image won in the “Impressions” category, and
was taken in the waters around Espirito de Santo, just off La Paz. The competition
has 10 categories in all, and is currently on exhibition at the Natural History Museum in London.
Sandoval
previously won an award in the 2013 competition with his picture of a green turtle
grazing on sea grass in the waters around Cancun.
