A boatful of delighted tourists
couldn’t believe their luck when a trio of killer whales were just meters away
from their boat.
The tourists were on a boat trip
near the island of Espiritu Santo when the rarely seen orcas were spotted. Near enough to get some great shots their
images of these beautiful but deadly marine mammals have gone viral and been
seen by thousands.
Although rare in these parts,
there is a well known pod of orcas that make periodic appearances around La
Paz. They have been known to speed along in chase of the tourist boats and
provide a breathtaking natural spectacle.
But let’s not forget, orcas are natural born killers. Last year a local newspaper reported an attack by a group of orcas on
a baby humpback whale.
