Open Cast Mine Protest

Date Published:

NGO’s informed this week that the formation of the Human SOS against Open Mining will be scheduled for January 18th 2015 in El Tule Beach on the Tourist Corridor in Los Cabos.

The Human SOS was to be formed last September, but it got postponed due to hurricane Odile.

Armando Sanchez, president of the S.O.S Association, Blanca Pedrín president of the San José del Cabo Historic Center Association and Adriana Lopez from the Association of Family Parents are rallying the community for support.

Participants are asked to be on the Tourist Corridor, under El Tule Bridge on January 18th 2015 at 8:00 am wearing a green t-shirt to protest against Open Mining in the State of Baja California Sur.

Various NGO’s are demanding the authorities to cancel any permits for such practice, as it is absolutely not in the community’s best interest.

On January 16th 2011 the S.O.S. Association rallied for 5,000 people to form a Human SOS at the same Location, El Tule Beach. The outcome was surprisingly positive for their cause; over 9,000 people showed up to protest against an industry that would affect in a negative way most of the community’s interests; tourism, construction and agriculture.

“I wouldn’t miss it for anything in the world. My friends, family and everyone I know are going to go. Open Mining threatens the community’s way of living benefiting only a few. This is also a great chance to make our community stronger, healthier and happier”  said a local businessman.

If you are against Open Mining in Cabo, don’t miss this event; after all, Life is more valuable than Gold.
