Cabo Marina To Be Dredged

Date Published:

For three months from July the authorities plan to dredge the marina in Cabo San Lucas.

Studies by navy divers have shown that a lot of rubble, mostly due to damage caused by Hurricane Odile, needs to be removed and deposited further out at sea for safety. An area has already been approved by the maritime and environmental authority for this dumping and it is hoped that it will create marine structure for fish as it is mostly concrete, metal and other junk.

Hector Cota Montano, manager of API said that the aim is to remove at least fifty thousand cubic meters of garbage; He emphasized that such work will not affect normal operations of the port.

The works are not expected to affect the operation of the marina which is vitally important to the economy of Cabo San Lucas.
