This was the tragic sight of Los Cabos International Airport after Odile paid a visit.

Many people are searching for information on the hotels that they have booked for their vacation and wondering if they will be able to come down here. This puts it in perspective: barring a miracle it looks that the airport will not be open for flights or anything else any time soon.

According to the Secretary of Tourism yesterday (Sept 15), the airport's two terminals were "damaged but the airport is operable". The army, navy and commercial planes are expected to use it to get injured, elderly and infirm tourists out. Private planes will start using it on Tuesday, with commercial flights expected to resume "in the coming hours".

To most folks surprise he proved to be as good as his word and some flights left today as promised:

However there have been NO commercial flights in or out of the airport since this statement was made. Current advice from airlines ranges from September 23rd till October 10th. United have now said a flight will come in on the 20th - more here - however there is some speculation that will not happen and indications are that Monday will be the earliest opening day for the airport.

** We have received a report that La Paz airport may be open for commercial flights. **

It may be worth directing friends, family and loved ones there - but please call the airport first:

La Paz Airport, Mexico, Km 10 Carretera Transpenins, CP 28090 La Paz, Baja California
Tel: +52 (01)2-29-59, +52 (01)2-14-87

As soon as we get definitive information we will post it here.

There is an Evacuation update report here.
