Redrum Cabo Fishing Report October 3rd

Date Published:

It’s been another great week of fishing down at RedRum!!  Got to see several different species make it to the boats including Wahoo, Dorado, lots of Yellowfin and of course Marlin and Sailfish!

Sunday the 27th was a decent day after a busy weekend for the boys!  Juan and Humberto had a nice day with the Norman Group catching and releasing a Sailfish and bringing a nice Wahoo to the boat!  Gotta love that Wahoo bite!!  They are extremely difficult to keep on the line if you aren’t necessarily targeting them so great job to the crew on that one!  The Saltaformaggio boys fished their 2nd day with us and caught a bonita, released it.  They fished a half-day charter on RumRunnin and we just a little out of reach of the fish!  Alex and Charly headed out on El Nuevo with the CCA associated Ramos group from Texas and caught 2 nice Yellowfin as well as another pair of Bonita.  Catch of the Day: 19′s Toy with Captain Gaba and the Thompson Party.  They were able to Catch and Release 2 Sailfish as well as a Striped Marlin and caught 8 YFT, largest of them was about 45# class.  Great eating!!

The week started off on the right note for most of the boats with El Nuevo leading the YFT catch with 7 beauties!  The Deriz Team were glad they fished with Alex and Charly and stayed busy throughout most of their trip!  RumRunnin was a close 2nd with 6 Yellowfin for the Rahn party.  Jesus/Jesus stayed in touch with Alex on the radio and picked away at the same small school that was hanging around San Jaime Bank.  the Rahns also had a nice Blue Marlin on the line for 20 minutes before the Blue spit the hook.  The Terry Snyder and friends fished on Peleador and Caught and Released a 120# class Blue Marlin as well as 2 more Sailfish.  They were also able to bag a Dorado for dinner!  The Marques, fishing a half-day charter with Juan and Humberto reeled in a Dorado on their 5 hour trip.

Oscar and Omar have been working on RedRum, 31′ Bertram that usually headlines our Fish Reports.  They want to make sure the boat is ready for tournament season so she did not fish the first part of the week.  Good to know that Captain Omar took the time to check and double check everything to make sure the boat is ready to move forward!  Clay Firby and his group on TantRum caught and released a Sailfish but lost a Blue.  RumRunnin got on a nice school of Tuna and were able to bring 10 of them to the boat as well as Catching and Releasing a Sailfish.  First Mate Charly released 2 Striped Marlin on the Ramos’ 2nd and last day of fishing on El Nuevo!

YELLOWFIN WEDNESDAY: The boys cleaned up on the Tuna with each boat catching at least 3.  This group of Tuna had some size to them; I’d put an average of 45# and the largest coming from the Payne Group at 120#’s.  Mr. Mckean fished by himself on TantRum and had to call it quits early as the 4 Yellowfin, all above 40# took their toll on him!  Mr. Payne added another 2 smaller YFT to his nice 120 pounder while fishing with Ramon and Julian on ReelRum.  Bob and Lori fished a half-day on RumRunnin and caught 4 additional Yellowfin while the Martin’s aboard El Nuevo outdid them by landing one more, giving them a total of 5 that they took home.  Unfortunately they lost a Blue Marlin after a 3o minute fight.

The first of October brought success to most of the boats in the fleet!  TantRum led the pack with 8 Yellowfin caught with the Anderson party and Leah Small caught an additional 3 while fishing with Ramon and Julian on ReelRum.  Travis, Kathryn and Ashley Bird fished a half-day on RumRunnin and caught 4 Yellowfin and had quite the introduction to Pancho the infamous Sea Lion down here!  The Reber party picked up a pair of YFT while fishing with Captain Alex on El Nuevo.   John Thompson finally got the billfish he had been waiting for!  He Caught and Released a nice sized Sailfish while fishing his 2nd day with Gaba on 19′s Toy.

Friday was an excited day to spend some time on the docks, especially watching all the boats coming back with all the flags they were bringing in!! Definitely my favorite sight to see!Top Gun and RedRum entertained the Millar group for a pair of half-day charters.  A little competition had them going early and by fish count, they came out even.  The bags between the 2 groups were a little different as RedRum got on a school of Tuna and landed 6 of them while Captain Julio on TopGun caught 4 Dorado, released a Sailfishn and a SkipJack (6 fish).  Winner, you decide!?!?  I’d have to side with 4 Dorado and a Sail… Just me though!!!TantRum and the Kesslers caught half a dozen Tuna on their 1/2 day trip with Juan and Humberto on TantRum, the DePinto Boys caught 8 Yellowfin on ReelRum and the Rebers added another 8 YFT and a Released Striped Marlin while fishing with Alex on El Nuevo!  Sniper caught a Mahi-Mahi and 2 Yelowfin with the Crisps and Captain Gaba rounded out the day with 1 more Yellowfin and a Caught and Released Sailfish.

We wrap up with a rainy Saturday!  At around 10am rain started pouring down; no wind or anything alarming just lots of “agua dulce” as the boys call it!  It didn’t seem to effect the fishing too much as the Yates on TantRum caught 1 nice Dorado as well as a Yellowfin!  The Gagnes also brought in a Dorado aboard RumRunnin while the Beachums caught a total of 10 YFT on El Nuevo!  The Weiner Group caught and released a Blue Marlin with Gaba on 19′s Toy and also caught a Yellowfin for some nice grubbin’!!  Lastly, the Macias group headed out with Captain Julio on Top Gun and caught a Dorado!

The days are flying by down here with all of the action on the marina!  Weather seems to be holding up nicely as the temps both on and off the water are slowly cooling down!  Let’s hope the fishing keep heating up though!!
